When AI meets HR — responsibility is not the opposite of innovation

(Part 2: Responsible adoption)

On 19 August I am invited as a panel participant in HR-nettverk Bjørvika to discuss «HR as an innovation engine — or as a brake?»

Last Wednesday I wrote about execution and the gap between good initiatives, changed practice and realised value.

This time I want to raise some other perspectives I am bringing into the discussion.

Execution alone is not enough.

As AI is increasingly used in recruitment, competence development, employee follow-up, work processes and decision support, another question becomes steadily more important:

How do we increase innovation speed without letting go of responsibility, trust and human judgement?

I believe this will be one of HR's most important balancing acts going forward.

💥 Good governance does not have to slow innovation. It can make scaling safer.

If leaders and employees know which frameworks apply, which data can be used, who owns the responsibility and when human assessment is necessary, it also becomes easier to experiment and adopt new solutions.

💥 Human-in-the-loop must be more than a principle on a PowerPoint slide.

AI can analyse, structure, suggest and challenge. But when decisions affect people, the organisation must be clear on where technology ends and human responsibility begins.

💥 HR should not only establish guidelines for AI. HR can help build the organisation's ability to use the technology well.

It is about competence, training, safe experimentation, new ways of working and leadership follow-up.

Because if governance is only about what we cannot do, it risks becoming a brake.

But if governance creates clear frameworks for what we can do, how we learn and how responsibility is safeguarded, it can instead support innovation.

💥 The real challenge may therefore not be choosing between speed and control, but building organisations that master both.

That is what I mean by responsible adoption.

Part 1 was about moving from innovation to execution. Part 2 is about how we can implement and scale in a way that also builds trust and responsibility.

I am bringing both perspectives into the panel discussion at HR-nettverk Bjørvika.

👉 What do you think? Where is the balance between necessary governance and the need to experiment, learn and move quickly with AI?
